Walking Through Water: A Dream Reflection

This weekend, I dreamed I was walking through what felt like an old mall — a space once built for gathering, distraction, and consumption. The floors were scattered with puddles, and though I wore only socks, the water never soaked through.

Then I was with my half-sister, who appeared as her younger self. Together, we opened a set of doors and stepped into a central area. From the left, water was gushing in like waves, rising until it was halfway up our calves. It was powerful, alive, unstoppable.

Ahead of us were glass doors up a few steps. On the other side, people wandered casually, dry and untouched. We walked toward those glass doors, opened them — and then I woke up.

The strange part: at no point did I feel wet. Even while standing in rushing water, it never soaked into me.

What the Water Speaks

Water is the ancient symbol of the unconscious, emotion, and truth. It can come as a trickle, or it can come as waves that change everything in their path. Here, the flood rose through a place built for distraction. The mall — old, outdated — could no longer contain what was rushing in.

And still, I did not feel wet. This detail speaks of unseen protection, or perhaps a resilience of spirit: the ability to move through overwhelming emotions and collective tides without being consumed by them.

The Younger Sister

The presence of my sister as her younger self points toward family, childhood, and old stories still moving with me. Dreams often bring these figures not as literal people, but as mirrors of the inner child. Maybe she was walking with me so that a younger part of myself could finally see the waters too.

Two Worlds

The glass doors revealed a split reality. Behind them, people remained dry, unaffected, lost in distraction. On my side, the waters were alive and rising.

This is what awakening often feels like: standing in the waves of change while the world around you continues on, unaware. Two worlds existing side by side — one in denial, one in transformation.

Questions to Journal With

  • Where in your life are the waters rising — calling you to feel, to transform, to awaken?

  • Do you notice that you can move through intensity without it “soaking in”? What protects you?

  • Which younger version of yourself is still walking with you, needing to be seen in these waters?

  • Do you feel yourself at the threshold between two worlds — one rising with truth, one staying dry in distraction?

  • Which world are you choosing to walk into?

An Invitation

Dreams of water are invitations. They remind us that the flood always finds its way — seeping, rushing, reclaiming. The question is never whether the water will rise, but how we will move with it.

This dream leaves me standing at a threshold, facing waves on one side and dry illusions on the other. The invitation is to keep walking into the waters of transformation — and trust that even when the waves rise, I am not consumed.
